Prayer of Agreement
the power of unity and agreement when believers come together in prayer
Matthew 18:19 (NKJV):
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”
At first glance, it may sound like a blank check—“if I find someone to agree with me, God will give me what I want.” But in context, Jesus is teaching about prayer, unity, and alignment with God’s will.
Agreement Must Be in God’s Will
God is not promising to fulfill any request just because two people agree.
Scripture consistently teaches that effective prayer is aligned with His will:
“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14).
Agreement Creates Unity of Faith
The verse emphasizes the power of believers joining together with one heart and mind in faith.
When two (or more) come into genuine agreement, their faith strengthens and aligns with God’s purposes.
It’s About Kingdom Authority, Not Personal Demands
This passage is in the context of church discipline and spiritual authority (see Matthew 18:15–20). Jesus is highlighting how agreement in prayer aligns believers with heaven’s authority.
Verse 20 continues: “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
The focus is Jesus being present and His will being carried out, not just fulfilling personal desires.
What It Means
It does not mean that if you can convince someone to agree with you, God is obligated to give you exactly what you want.
It does mean that when believers unite in prayer, seeking God’s will and agreeing in faith, there is great spiritual power and authority, and God responds according to His purposes.
Agreement in prayer is powerful when it aligns with God’s will, His Word, and His purposes—not just human desires.
Steps for Praying Agreement in God’s Will
1. Start With God’s Word
Find a clear promise in Scripture that applies to your need.
Example: If praying for healing, stand on Isaiah 53:5 or James 5:15.
If praying for provision, stand on Philippians 4:19.
Agreement prayers should be anchored in what God has already said.
2. Come Together in Unity
Make sure the person agreeing with you is also a believer who can stand in faith with you.
Amos 3:3 asks: “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
Both of you must genuinely agree — not just with each other, bt with God’s Word.
3. Pray in Jesus’ Name
Agreement prayer is not a human contract — it’s a spiritual partnership with Christ present in the middle (Matthew 18:20).
Always end in Jesus’ name, acknowledging His authority.
4. Believe and Rest
Once you’ve prayed in agreement, don’t keep re-praying in doubt. Instead, thank God for answering according to His will.
Trust His timing and wisdom.
Sample Prayer of Agreement
“Heavenly Father, we come into agreement today on the basis of Your Word. You said in Matthew 18:19 that if two of us agree on earth concerning anything we ask, it will be done by You in heaven.
Lord, we agree according to [insert scripture promise here, e.g., Philippians 4:19: You shall supply all our need according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus].
We align our request with Your will and Your Word, not our own desires.
We believe that You hear us, and we thank You in advance for answering in the way that brings You glory and fulfills Your purpose.
In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.”
